What ‘should’ homosexuals look like?

Don’t judge a book by its cover they say, well here comes another controversial post, what should a homosexual look like?

Looks can be deceptive in more ways than we can imagine. In this case a homosexual’s seemingly ‘odd’ appearance is being questioned.

A homosexual is a human, he or she has the right to look like anything they want as long as it doesn’t hurt anyone else. So its nobody’s business really.

A homosexual’s overall presentation and grooming could be as feminine or masculine as they want. They could lie anywhere on the gender scale that means there are no fixed rules about looks, it all depends on the mindset of the individual.

There are muscle-studs who could very well be homosexual, or so gracefully feminine that they had to call them trans-gender because they really were a woman in a man’s body. Then there are those who deny their sexuality and conform to social norms and codes of dressing to avoid fuss and resistance. This is the majority of homosexuals and lets face it they’re not gorgeous or model-like because for that you have to carry-off and not be pushed around like your looks don’t matter.

Some get so caught-up in the confusion surrounding them that they decide to alter themselves physically to match the feedback they’re getting from people around them. Hormones, feminization and SRS come next. I pity them really, I wouldn’t do that even though I have wanted to sometimes thinking I would lead a happy ‘normal’ life. But now I’m content living out and openly the way I want. A fancy haircut and unisex clothes is where I have learned to draw the line, anything more is over-the-top, a strict no-no for me. That doesn’t make me a bad person, but many people feel feminine is pure and that to me makes no sense. F**k them.

The truth is, no matter what homosexuals look like, they all want acceptance.

We also have homosexuals who are comfortable fitting into any role – man or woman alike. I like to place myself in this bracket, with some exceptions here or there even though androgyny is my thing really. We have stage-performers who will wear dress, makeup and elaborate costume for only the duration of the show, and we all know of the guy who would dance in front of the mirror pretending that the drape around his hair makes him a girl. These are humans, but if any day you get shocked by their appearance, don’t take it to heart because you have no idea what it is like to be in their shoes.

They’re not acting.

I hate it when they’re treated badly just because they look different.

That’s very sad if you ask me.

Music and Its Influence on Fashion – Research Paper

Last semester I had an assignment to write a research paper, and as usual the most difficult task was to chose what to write on.
Many were bitten by the ‘green’ bug, so wanting to do something different – I skipped that one. Design related exploration seemed to have great scope but the theory part seemed daunting. Phew!
A research paper need not all be about – well RESEARCH, it can be FUN too! So I decided to mix two of my favorite subjects together and called it “Music and its Influence on Fashion” – a research paper focusing on several fashion theories, and along with the study of their practical implications showed how that was possible. Things like how Madonna’s Boy-Toy look in the 80s inspired a whole generation of hair-bleaching-charm-wearing ladies trying to ape her style through the “butterfly effect” and so on.

A decent college level research paper is divided into parts beginning with an introduction and leading to a conclusion. The argument may or may not hold as was assumed in the start – and that has to be included too.
A synopsis would cover all of this in brief.

Even holidays are busy as now I am busy with internship work (voluntary), plus the pattern making classes I’d joined earlier. I just hope they like my work and I don’t end up a laborer by the end of July. Peace out!

Oh and I’m sorry to so many of you who’ve been leaving behind queries regarding their ranks and what they might get at NIFT. It might sound unreal, but the truth is no one can say what you might get. Your best bet is to ask someone with a similar rank in the previous year.

My 2008 rank was 130 and I was offered everything, everywhere except FD & FC Delhi. So that’s all I can say.

It seems this blog has been overtaken by the whole NIFT agenda. Perhaps I should make another one just for myself. That’s not half as bad a thought you know!

NIFT Situation Test 2010 Weekend Workshop

Want to clear the NIFT 2010 Situation Test? Put your skills to the test with a Weekend Workshop designed to help you get direction and idea on how to tackle the questions that are given.

You will get sound advice by NIFT Delhi students. You also get to learn by seeing what others make for the same problems.

Your basic questions about the Situation Test, NIFT and it’s courses will also be cleared.

What I cannot tell you are your chances of clearing the Entrance.

The particulars are as follows:

Location: South Delhi

Fees: Will be told.

Duration: About 5 hours.

The Workshop will be held either on coming Sunday (18th) or one day before the test (24th). It all depends on how soon we can gather students and make a batch.

Its been long since I’ve written. I’ve been getting a lot of hate comments so this is a personal message for all you haters: F-off!

Okay, now that that’s over with,…well Summer is knocking on the door. My cats seem to be getting more restless by the day, must be the heat. I’ve placed a collar ’round their neck which they seem to be getting used to slowly.

Apart from that, college is okay. I’m learning pattern making which has me hooked for good. Hope to be making dresses soon. A gown for myself? Maybe…check this out…and while you’re at it look at this, and this and this too. Chris’s video got me thinking of this topic more seriously, and why not? …and of course don’t miss this. The last one represents the s*it that the conservative world has to offer to me. Well it won’t work. My answer to them is a sound “Yes!!! Cross-dressing activists WILL come to my school!”. Yay! Haha…

People & Their Judgments

We were all born equal. The world is essentially the same, until we learn to use our heads and make judgments. Every time we judge something as right/wrong, we create an inequality, and it is this inequality that defines us and also what we are judging. Thus the world at the end of the judgement is not the same as it was before. The more you judge, the more you define yourself and the world around you – the more your self becomes apparent. Now whether this ‘newly’ acquired self-conciousness is right/wrong is still open for judgment by another.

What does this have to do with me at all? Well, I’ve had a lot of people around me judging me on the way I am. I myself have taken this quite seriously and have begun judging my own self. The world would definitely be a cheerful and playful place without so much judgement. But we have to grow and we have to define our limits and only judgments on each other can get us there. So a peaceful playful atmosphere lasts only as long as we don’t judge each other. The moment this happens, differences start creeping into our relationships with others and the happy game soon comes to a finish. That’s how we lose friends, through differences created either by our own judgments or their judgments. So can we stop judging? The answer is no, we have to evolve and we have to define ourselves more and more with each passing second. The solution is to learn to live with them. Don’t live in denial, if someone is making too many judgments in you or finding flaws then maybe your relation with them is going to change in the future – either for better or worse.

You must have heard people say the phrase that someone has “moved on in life”, well it is through their own judgments and through the judgments of those around them that they have done so.

Being Gay in New Delhi

Supposedly, if you’re a gay guy and don’t wish to conform to the gender role of a typical guy then public security checks can be an issue for you.

For me, I don’t identify as either gender, which means I’m somewhere in the middle. This is a trouble-zone to be in which creates problems in the way our society works. It’s a flaw in the way we think of each other.

What I did wrong (?) was that my outer appearance was close to feminine but not completely female either. I was dressed in tight denim three-fourth pants. Apparently, androgynous clothing or behaviour may deem you unfit to be clubbed with the other ‘guys’. This applies to all those situations where a public distinction between gender is required for instance public washrooms or public queues.

Yesterday the Security Guard at the Central Secretariat Metro Station refused to frisk me and insisted I get checked with ladies instead who had a separate queue to their name. Now this is strange because I feel a guy has the right to wear make-up and women’s clothing in public.

In another instance, a few months ago I was standing at the Security Check for females at Select Citywalk Mall in Saket and the female attendant there insisted I get checked with the males. It’s enough to confuse the likes of someone already puzzled with their gender identity and an even more queer social setup.

My solution is to have one queue for everyone, irrespective of gender identity or sexual orientation. We should have common washrooms with separate and closed compartments for anyone who wishes to use it, just like the way private washrooms function – they’re meant for anyone who wishes to use it.
